Free outdoor cinema and live music event announced for Midhurst

People in Midhurst will be able to enjoy some big screen magic thanks to a free event taking place later this month in the town’s Market Square.

‘Midhurst Music and Movies on the Square’ will take place on Saturday 26 September, bringing two iconic films alongside local musicians and music-themed activities to the town.

The event, which is organised by Chichester District Council, will take place from 12pm, when visitors can enjoy live performances from talented local musicians and bands playing Latin-inspired sounds, before enjoying screenings of ‘Coco’ at 2pm and ‘La La Land’ at 6pm.

Offering something for both families and adults, Pixar’s ‘Coco’ follows a 12-year-old Mexican boy’s journey to overturn a ban on music, and the hit musical ‘La La Land’ tells the story of a romance between a jazz pianist and an aspiring actress as they pursue their dreams in Los Angeles.

Alongside the films there will be a range of family-friendly activities including kids’ karaoke, face painting, and the chance to try out a variety of musical instruments.

Councillor Harsha Desai, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Communications, Licensing and Events, says: “We are really pleased to be working alongside the Midhurst Jazz, Food & Blues Festival on this free event, which promises to be a fantastic celebration of music and movies.

“We organise a variety of events across the district throughout the year, and we are delighted to be working with Midhurst Town Council and Midhurst Town Trust to bring the community together for what we are sure will be a wonderful event.

“Between the two showings, there will also be live music where the audience will be encouraged to show off a few dance moves too.

“Bring your favourite camping chair or rug and enjoy music and the magic of the cinema in the historic setting of Midhurst’s old town!

“The event is part of our wider Events Strategy which focuses on bringing a wider range of events to the district for different age groups and audiences in order to support our local businesses and the evening and night-time economy.”

The event has been made possible using UK Government funding which was secured by Chichester District Council.
