Fernhurst Burial Ground
Fernhurst Cemetery is located off Church Road in the centre of the village of Fernhurst with the address
Church Road, Fernhurst, West Sussex. GU27 3HH and what3words location objecting.cork.laws
The burial ground was first consecrated in 1879 and is owned, maintained and managed by Fernhurst Parish Council. There are War Graves, registered with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission within the precinct of the cemetery.
Monuments within Fernhurst Cemetery constitute a fascinating record of late Nineteenth and Twentieth Century residents of the parish and are detailed in the Fernhurst Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Management Plan (2016). The Plan also notes that the lychgate to the cemetery is a significant feature on Church Road and makes a contribution to the character of the Conservation Area.
The Council keeps the cemetery in good order, mows the grass and ensures that the area is kept free of litter so that those who wish to visit the graves can do so in peace and tranquillity.
The Council also manages the reservation of plots and internments. Please note that the burial itself, any main or graveside funeral service and the placing of monuments is not the responsibility of the Council and is usually organised by a funeral director on behalf of the family of the deceased.
Please refer to the Burial Ground Regulations and price list below. Application forms are available from the Clerk, who is also happy to advise you in the event of any query.
